Political Animals: Kit Launch & Game
Political Animals receive their own PUMA bespoke designed kit and take it straight into action
The team is made up of politicians from all parties and regions of the UK, including Lords, MPs, Councillors and Parliamentary Candidates. It will play representative sides to raise the profile of the sport amongst a wider political audience and help raise money for charity.
Members of Parliament that have so far played for the Animals include Lord Dominic Addington and MPs Greg Mulholland and Andy Reed, with many more registered to take part. Other players include Martin Winter, former Mayor of Doncaster, Wakefield Councillor Clive Hudson and Parliamentary Candidate for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough, John Sharp.
In addition, Sky Sports presenter and rugby league icon Mike ‘Stevo’ Stephenson is the club’s President and was in attendance as the team appropriately unveiled their new PUMA Rugby Kit at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, central London.
Leeds North West MP and Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson, Greg Mulholland commented, “It’s fantastic news that we have a political Rugby League team and I am proud to be playing for them. This is an important year for UK politics so it’s great to be able to take time out of my busy schedule to play the sport I love."
A member of the 1972 Rugby League World Cup winning team, Political Animals Club President Mike Stephenson added, “I am pleased to be here in London for the launch of the Political Animals rugby league team. This is a great new team for the sport; I am honoured to be the Club President. The Political Animals will bring more and more politicians into the game making them aware of the enjoyment gained from playing the sport and what it brings to communities throughout the UK.”
