The Premier League
PUMA sponsored Tottenham Hotspur maintained their challenge for a Champions League spot with a 3-1 win at home to Blackburn on Saturday lunchtime. Michael Carrick and Nemanja Vidic, both wearing the new PUMA Power Boots, starred as Manchester Utd beat Fulham 3-0 at Old Trafford.
The Championship
Sheffield Wednesday boosted their chances of survival, moving out of the relegation zone with a 0-0 draw at promotion chasing Swansea. PUMA player Matty James scored for Preston as they beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Deepdale. In-form Coventry City had a 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle in which Clinton Morrison wore the new Blue/Silver speed boot. There was an all PUMA tie at The Madjeski on Saturday where Reading continued their good form with a 2-0 over Bristol City. This capped a superb week for Reading who had earlier in the week beat Derby 4-1 at home. Puma players Ryan Bertrand, Simon Church and Shane Long were all on the scoresheet for Brian McDermott’s side.
The Championship League One
In League One, 2 PUMA endorsed England Youth Internationals were in action. Alex McCarthy (on loan from Reading) and Steven Caulker (on loan from Tottenham) were both at the top of their game as Yeovil saw off Hartlepool United with a 4-0 win at Huish Park. PUMA clubs Colchester, Leyton Orient and Brentford sit in 5th, 14th and 15th respectively.
Rugby Union
PUMA team Ireland kept their hopes of winning the 6 Nations crown with a 27-12 win over Wales.
Rugby League PUMA side St Helens got their season back on track with a 37-30 win over the Crusaders at Knowsley Road.
Another PUMA team Castleford picked up their second win of the season away at Catalans beating
the Welsh outfit 20-16.
Cricket
IPL
The third season of the IPL got underway last week with PUMA sponsoring 2 teams in the competition.
The Rajhastan Royals lost their opening game by 4 runs to Mumbai Indians. The other Puma team and
defending champions Deccan Chargers won 1 and lost 1 of their opening 2 fixtures. The Chargers are captained by PUMA sponsored Adam Gilchrist who himself led from the front scoring 54 from 35 balls against Kolkata and a rapid 38 from just 17 balls against Chennai. Graeme Swann ensured he didn't need to score big runs with his PUMA bat by picking up yet another 5-wicket haul as England closed in on victory in Bangladesh.
